Here are some photos of our students on the boat:
Also some pics of the scenery along the River Thames:
The ride was beautiful and so was the weather. We have been VERY fortunate with the weather. Only sporadic sprinkles of rain so far...(I'm not saying anymore because I don't want to jinx it!)
When we arrived at the boat landing we found out that the largest flower show in England was being held on the grounds of the palace gardens and there would be thousands of extra people around viewing the flower show. Apparently as we were walking in, we just missed Camilla Parker Bowles (don't know her official title) as she was there to open the flower show. Ok that was our first close call to actually seeing royalty. The palace and grounds are impressive and the history behind the structure is fascinating. The structure itself is really 2 castles. Henry VIII was the first monarch to utilize Hampton Court because he took it away from one of his advisors when he fell out of favor with the king. So the front half is Henry VIII's Tudor style and the second half of the building was created for William and Mary at the end of the 17th century. It was built in the Baroque style. Enjoy these photos of the grounds and building. Oh and also you will get a glimpse of King Henry VIII himself!
So after a long day at Hampton Court we all came back to campus for 2 more hours of lecture in the British Culture class. Last but not least, I was fortunate to be invited by the Kingston Summer staff to go to a wonderful dinner at a French restaurant in Surbiton.
Today, Wednesday was a regular class day and we discussed Juvenile courts. The students are assigned different topics to research regarding the differences in the US and UK juvenile justice systems which they will report on at the end of the session.
Still everything seems to be going along just fine. Hope everyone is well!
More later.
Hampton Court looked very cool!
